From the Front Row: Boris Johnson against Jeremy Hunt who will win to be our next Prime Minister?
I have been to Daily telegraph events before, in the same hotel and even being sat in the same row. Although this time it was different, I had managed to rush to the front row. This article shall talk about a debate between two highly motivated and intelligent men. This article shall be like no other as you shall gain fresh knowledge of our potential leaders that only a young conservative insider can tell you from being there in person. It was a one off event that the Daily Telegraph was hosting for its readers and it took place in the Savoy Hotel London.
This time last year I attended my first ever conference with Boris Johnson and he took the place by storm. I was very keen to get my book on The Churchill Factor, which he wrote, signed, so I casually approached the events manager and asked if she would pass on my book to the author. She was, I hope, taken in by my charm and after the event I had my book back, signed by Boris Johnson. I was thrilled.
I have been very lucky to be in the front row twice now to hear Boris Johnson speak and I do prefer him to Jeremy Hunt because of his charm. When one listened to Jeremy Hunt one feels bored, although I also think Jeremy's reputation never really recovered after his troubles with the NHS. I think I would want Boris Johnson as Prime Minister because he has been in politics for a while and did a excellent job as Mayor of London.
When I was listening to Boris Johnson speak about his manifesto. I was not going to be falling asleep, as one can feel his personality from across the room. I was like everyone else in the audience: rapt to attention by what he was saying. I also appreciated that he is very protective of his environment and I just hope he is not making empty promises out of thin air.
What I liked about this conference is that I noticed the conservative party only has old members, and I was one of the young ones which felt rather great. It was also wonderful being in the front row because it almost felt as if they were talking directly towards you, in come cases I almost felt Boris Johnson's gaze sweep past over my head.
I definitely approved more of Boris Johnson than Jeremy Hunt as Boris is just much more fun and he won't bore us to death like Jeremy Hunt. I think that Boris Johnson has done a better job as Mayor of London than Sadiq Khan and he is generally more popular. I also think that Donald Trump and Boris have a good relationship, so then perhaps, we can get a good deal from America.
Politics of the 21st century have never been as interesting, with the news dramatising every piece of gossip and politicians afraid to tell their constituents the truth. Our leaders believe that Technology will solve all of their present problems even though we all know such a 'solution' will just end up creating unforeseen problems for the near future.
I think that Jeremy Hunt will get the job done, although I do not think that the conservative party will elect Jeremy Hunt. I think that his reputation was tarnished with his leading the NHS and his mishandling of the doctor's pay. I would like to hear how he fought through those battles and tell me how he would do a better job than Theresa May. It is easy to criticise the leader when you are not the leader.
What is dangerous about Boris Johnson is that he is a bit of a loose cannon. My hunch tells me that he would mostly be a figurehead and not really in power. I think that the charm of Boris will see him through as leader. Charm can be rather engaging and people like Boris because of it, even though we all know he can be rather dangerous behind the charm. Being charming does have its consequences.
Boris Johnson has also been foreign secretary so we can hope that his various roles in government he given him room to mature with responsibility. He became a MP for Henley in 2001 and before that he was a journalist for the times. He was also President of the Oxford Union so we assume that he is a rather bright human.
Overall, I think that Boris Johnson shall be the best candidate for the Next Prime Minister. I admire Theresa May for her dedication towards her country. I hope that we have even more women as Prime Minister.
