Victoria and Albert my favourite Queen and Prince.

Victoria and Albert were the couple in charge during the Victorian age, even though Albert and Victoria were first cousins (as this was relatively normal in noble families). The era in which they lived was called the Victorian age because of Queen Victoria, who was one of Britain's longest reigning and most successful monarchs. Queen Victoria was born in 1819 and died in 1901 she lived a long life and reigned for 63 years, many of these as Empress of India.

When Queen Victoria became Queen on the 20 June 1837 the British Royal family were not very popular. She was the sixth successive monarch to be seen by the public as foreign and corrupt. The British had not had a woman on the throne for more than eighty years, not since the death of Queen Anne in 1714. Queen Anne lived in Hampton Court Palace and ruled with a iron fist. Queen Victoria was more German and reserved and lived as Queen in Buckingham Palace.

What I like most about Queen Victoria, and which sets her apart from other Queens, is that she was impulsive, which I am also guilty of. I like the fact that she was emotional, capricious and logical, all at the same time. Victoria had all the Royal authority and the status. Albert was clever but was considered inferior to Victoria, which held him back and meant he did not always get what he wanted. Even though Albert was the man, he was the junior in the marriage, which must have been very difficult in that day and age.

Queen Victoria was educated for the role of Queen from a young age, some would say she was groomed for it. Victoria had a bright mind and was knowledgeable in history. Queen Victoria was brave as throughout her life she survived many assassination attempts. I think what made Queen Victoria, Victoria, was her love of her own family and her devotion to her country. In this sense, Queen Victoria never had any doubt that she would be a great Queen.

I admire how well suited Albert and Victoria were for each other. I think no one had any idea how successful this marriage would be. Apart from the physical attraction to each other they became each other's best friends. Albert was what I would call nowadays a engineer, and someone who has great organisational skills. Albert when he first married Victoria was at a loss of what to do in his spare time. He focused on running the domestic arrangements. Albert realised that he could have a real impact on the Queen's Household be organising the household accounts.

He was brilliant at saving money, for instance he saved £400 by rearranging the laundry. He also made amazing changes to the household; he managed to install the first loo for the staff which helped hygiene. I admire Albert's intelligence and in letting Queen Victoria keep the status of Queen he busied himself in other areas like setting up the Victoria and Albert museum and putting on the Great Exhibition.

They are one of the best couples in history even though they were both so different in their characters. From the outside it would seem as though they seemed to have nothing in common. Albert loved Science and Philosophy while Queen Victoria love dancing and seeing circuses or theatre performances. However, they did both love having dogs and they both loved music. Albert owned a dog called Eos which he adored, while Queen Victoria had her famous spaniel Dash that she cared for as if it was her own child.

It was meant to be a formal relationship, a 'marriage of convenience' between Germany and Britain. What they did not expect was the physical attraction that they had towards each other. They loved each other dearly as seventeen years and nine children is excellent proof of a fulfilled marriage. One of my favourite facts about Albert is that he invented a special device that meant he could lock their door without climbing out of bed. Very useful as their Palace was filled with listening servants going from one place towards the next. The important fact to remember in this relationship is that they were both huge personalities, each unique and with their own interests and passions.

What I love most about the marriage is that they held nothing in check especially their emotions. That is a weird concept as one tends to think of VIctorians as having a stiff upper lip. They fought fiercely with rows in the formal rooms of the Palace. They then made up as if nothing happened. Albert realised that 'I am the husband but not the master in the house". I think that they both supported each other as most people tend to think that during the Victorian age men were in charge. Alas it was the Queen that was in charge of the kingdom and not Albert, and yet that seemed to work well form them in the long run.

I love writing about Queen Victoria and Prince Albert as they are the most incredible Royal couple that have ever lived! I also love writing about this amazing Victorian world that they lived in. The Victorian age was one of the most important ages that led towards the 'modern' age. In 1863 the London underground was invented. I believe that this is the most useful invention under the reign of Queen Victoria. Whenever anyone sits on the tube in the underground one can be thankful that we are not walking around London in the rain.

The Victorians were instrumental in creating the modern world that we live in today. For instance in 1858 they invented the rotary washing machine. I shall always be thankful towards the Victorians for inventing this machine as it makes washing my clothes a hell of a lot easier.

What I like most about Queen Victoria reign is that we can still see it everywhere today. Indoor plumbing the Victorians invented that amazing machine. To think that the Victorians lived a 180 years ago and we are still using there inventions is incredible. For instance in 1843 they invented Christmas cards which are still very much in use today.

We must be thankful for the Victorians as they lifted us into the modern age. They aided us so much like they invented Toilet paper in 1880. This is how I make my post relevant to modern life is showing how we use daily materials that our ancestors invented. I know that I will always be thankful for toilet paper way to go Victorians.

We forget how much the Victorian society impact on modern life like Easter holidays are taken from the Victorian age. In 1875 Chocolate Easter eggs were invented by the Victorians. With Easter approaching I can definitely be thankful towards the Victorians for making Easter day a bit more fun. Next time you eat a Easter egg be thankful for the Victorians.

I think Queen Victoria's mother was far too controlling over her while she was growing up. I think that Baroness Lehzen did help by giving Victoria a more well rounded upbringing especially in dark and gloomy Kensington palace, which she never liked. Meanwhile Albert's brother Ernest duke of Saxe-Coburg was very useful and vital for the upbringing of how Albert became the man he became.

When she became Queen one of her first acts was to break free from the influence of her mother, and Baroness Lehzen, who was a helicopter mother and kept her confined to Kensington Palace. She freed herself and then moved into Buckingham Palace where she could be sure to be in charge of her own affairs.

In the cold winter of 1840 at Buckingham Palace, a few weeks after her birthday the 21 year old Queen Victoria gave birth to her daughter (Vicky). Albert and Queen Victoria had nine children and Vicky was the first to be born. Vicky would one day give birth to Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany. Vicky lived from 1840 to 1901 and helped spy on Germany for her mother. She was only Empress and Queen for a few months, as her husband, German Emperor Fredrick II died shortly after their marriage.

I personally think what she did was incredible in her early reign balancing motherhood, her new husband and being Queen. I think her main achievement as Queen is that she maintained a sound public face while being deeply involved in her private family life which she adored.

After Albert's death at the age of forty two, Victoria went into deep stages of mourning. The pictures of the Royal couple always have Victoria looking with love at her husband. Even though their fights were dramatic, Victoria and Albert were experts at keeping their domestic arguments out of the public eye. They were quite a breath of fresh air compared to other Royal couples that were either fat or very old.

I think that one of their key successes was that they were able to project themselves as the perfect Royal couple and use it to their advantage. They had to work extremely hard on being the perfectly married Royal couple. Divorces were unheard of during the Victorian times, whilst now it's very normal. I think that Victoria and Albert inspire me because they never divorced even though they had a lot of money and children. They worked very hard at being the perfect couple which a lot of people today often forget or take for granted.

One of Queen Victoria's favourite mentors whom she often invited to stay with her at Buckingham palace was her favourite Belgium Uncle King Leopold. She would seek his advice upon matters of state. In return he would help calm her mind when she was irritated with Albert or with matters of state. Two small countries helping each other out, both countries which have a special place in my heart.
