Micheal Mcyintrye big Christmass show with a top secret tour of the Top secret comedy club.
I have always loved comedy as I find it fantastic to laugh out loud and, as they say, laughter is the best medicine. I think that timing is essential for comedians and it must be exhausting for them to have to be so on-point all the time. I also think there is more than meets the eye with comedy and that there is a link between public speaking, singing and comedy. This blog post shall cover all these topics as well as a behind the scenes tour of a top secret comedy club and the Micheal McIntyre Big Christmas Show.
"The whole world is a stage" is a favourite saying of mine, because, especially if you are a comedian like Michael McIntyre, you have a persona while on stage which often permeates reality. Because of this, it was even more exciting for me to see what Michael McIntyre was like during a filmed show - how much of his off-stage persona would seep through? It was my second event at the Hammersmith Apollo. I love the Apollo theatre I always see it on television so to be there in the flesh was very exciting, they have a awesome bar on the second floor filled with stage light and people and I have always loved to people-watch in bars!
The show that Michael hosted was a unique event in itself. He is such a skilled and talented comedian I love the way how he interacts with the crowd. He was born in 1976 and is age 42 . I think that Michael Mcyintrye is a very talented comedian because he is on stage on his own most of the time and ordinary people can relate to his every day jokes.
I have watched most of his shows and my admiration for the man grows with each programme. If I could invite five comedians to join me for my birthday dinner party. Micheal Mcyintrye would definitely get a invite. Then Will Smith and Graham Norman - good old graham. Then I think for the fourth one I would choose Black Adder actor Rowan Atkinson. The final and last addition to the seating plan would be Stephen Fry, as I like his wit and he always knows everything. I think that I would have French gourmet food and lots of wine. It would be a jolly evening of jokes and stories. A beautiful candle lit dinner that would be one that they would always remember with fondness.
One of the perks in living in London is that there is easy access to comedy clubs. We are spoilt for choice here in London where we lack for nothing. I asked my brother who works in Africa in Burundi what they do for fun and he replied sports. They do not have theatre in that country in Africa. In London we are blessed to have many theatres.
I believe that there is a strong link between singing and comedy and public speaking. It goes all the way back from when we were cavemen and we needed to communicate to survive. This is where we are separate from beasts. It is also a devolved mind that can take in humour. When I listened to Michael McIntyre he makes the stage his home. That is what I admire most about this particular comedian. I think that in his Big Show you can really see that there is a close link between singing and laughing. I think that it is a whole art organising a show like the Big Show.
"Do words mean anything?" is a strong line of thought that has been going around in my head for a long time. I think that with the understanding of language, our thought processes has evolved into a more matured way of thinking. With this in mind I think that when comedians speak in public they have to be trained. I admire these comedians as it must take guts to talk in front of large crowds. I think personally they are all very brave. I would get stage fright and walk on the stage only to walk off it straight away.
With this in mind I asked my friend John to introduce me to comedy that was not on the television. I wanted to see it with my own eyes, so we planned a trip into the wild centre of London town. My friend John was in the Oxford Imps and he is still in touch with his comedian friends. We met up one Thursday lunch time, just outside the crowded Leicester square. It was bustling with people and it smelled of toxic street food. I tried to take in all of my surroundings and was relieved to find John standing not too far away from me.
We eventually found the amazing and hidden top secret comedy club. I am a huge fan of this club as I had a wonderful time and actually met every comedian in the club. It was a memorable time as I was casually chilling with the comedians then I saw them on stage delivering their hilarious jokes.
