Clarence House

My tour of Clarence House took place in the wonderful summer of 2018. In August of that summer, my carer John and I were planning our next adventure in London and this glamorous residence sprung to mind. Once every year the Royal palaces open up to the public. Not everyone knows this fact. Even more closely guarded as a secret, is that Clarence House also does open tours for one month every year, in August. Thus John and I thought it best to take advantage of it on this occasion. I was very excited to see Clarence House, as it had always been on my bucket list, and now I was finally going to have it ticked off.

When one lives in London, the world comes to you. For me it truly does, especially when one has been fortunate enough to have had so many amazing adventures. I am a lucky devil as this adventure was particular special as I have always wanted to visit Clearance house it has been on my bucket list. Clearance house is the best type of house as on the ground floor it can fit a horse in between the corridors. What a sight for sour eyes that would be it would defiantly resemble a mess.

Last year John and I had access to Buckingham Palace in the summer where I spotted the Queen's private apartments. I have a lot of personal memories of Buckingham Palace, like the fantastic garden parties that the Royal family host there which I have been fortunate enough to have attended on one occasion. Even so, Clarence House was definitely a "highlight" adventure for me.

The contrast between Buckingham Palace and Clarence House is remarkable because Clarence House is far more intimate than Buckingham palace. Even though both are official residences of the Royal family. The most interesting feature about Clearance house is that it is one of the oldest town houses that is still lived in like a proper home.

Clarence House is a stunning mansion of the old sort, right slap-bang in the middle of London. The location of Clarence House is breathtaking, as its just down the road from Buckingham palace. When one compares Clearance house compared to Clarence House one realise how much more intimate Clearance house. The Royal family is just as much a part of Clearance house as it is of Buckingham palace.

It was built for Queen Victoria's third son, Prince Arthur, who was Duke Connought. The House was designed by John Nash who was considered 'the' artichect of his day. It took him from 1825 to 1827 to complete all of Clarence House. Prince Arthur lived there up until 1942 when he died. In the Second World War it belonged to Princess Elisabeth and Prince Philip. Their daughter Princess Anne was born there in the 1950's. It was also home to the Queen Mother and Princess Margret for many years thereafter. Not many people are aware of how important Clarence House is to the Royal family

I loved the gardens at Clarence House as they were amazing to behold. They say a picture can paint a thousand words, yet the gardens of Clarence House gardens are so special I think even a thousand would be too little. When we were being given the tour of Clarence House I realised that with it being such a lovely day they should have spent a lot more time in the garden telling us about the different plants. I think that I personally would have wanted to spend more time in the garden than in the house as its truly remarkably to have a garden that size on Pall Mall in central London.

I personally thought that it was unfair how quickly the tour ended; we did not get to see much of the actual house itself. We never even saw the second floor. Furthermore, I thought that the staff could have let us stay in the garden for longer and allowed us to take photos. I had no idea that when one became staff for the Queen one has to do a complete oath. I think that is quite cool as it feels as if you are going back in time.

In summary, I thought that the best part of having been to Clarence House was the garden and the fact that you became better acquainted with the Royal family and their history. Especially when one walks through the ground floor and you see all the family photos that one would not be able to see in Buckingham palace. It is well worth a visit and I highly recommend it in the month of August.
