Saint Paul's Cathedral adventure

We were lucky enough to go back to Saint Paul's for a private trip of the cathedral with the Head Librarian of the Dean and Chapter's Library. This will always be a special trip in my heart. Mainly because the normal tour ended at the secret staircase with the tour guide saying no one goes into the dean’s library. Well, except for Alexander! It was a lucky victory. For me as a librarian it was amazing to hold such ancient books and bibles.

When you first enter the library the first thing you realise is the smell of the wonderful books. It was the smell of knowledge, I loved the library it was very old most of the books were donated by Bishop Crompton after the Great Fire of London. Saint Paul's library staircase was very special walking down as it was very old and ancient.

Bishop Crompton was also one of the Bishops who was Bishop at Fulham Palace, which is where I am a museum steward of so it resonated with me, that Saint Paul's Cathedral and Fulham Palace have strong ties. The library itself was inspiring to be in even though it was for such a short moment of time. I would love to work in a place like that library firstly they would never get rid of me evil laugh.

The oldest book I held went back to the 18th century. It took my breath away, the librarian was very charming and full of knowledge, it was an inspirational excursion! We were allowed to stand on the naive of Saint Paul's cathedral which is above the 20 foot bronze door. That gave as a awesome view of the cathedral because you get given the sizes and sense of the scale of the building. It was impressive to behold !
